Lag BaOmer

May 2014

Yesterday was Lag BaOmer here in Israel. Lag BaOmer is a Jewish holiday celebrated on the 33rd day of the Counting of the Omer, which occurs on the 18th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar

In Israel, they celebrate the holiday by having bonfires all over the country. We were invited by our friends at the IDC (yes, we have made some amazing friends here in less than a week - things that don't happen at home) to the bonfire they were having next to the campus last night. The fire itself was, well, pretty pathetic, but it was so much fun.

They had mini pool tables, air hockey, and foosball set up, as well as basketball (like the ones you see at a carnival). There were a couple different DJs that played really great music throughout the night. They also had their professional basketball Final Four game playing on a giant screen. Israel beat Real Madrid in overtime.

After the bonfire we went over to our friends' apartment. I have been to two different apartments since I've been here, and they both have a piece of the roof of the building that they all hang out on. The weather here is perfect for sitting outside and hanging out at night - on the roof, of course.
